Arkansas – When you think of alligators, you probably think of Florida, Mississippi, or even Alabama. But, as it turns out, Arkansas has an alligator hunting season, and registration for this is happening right now until the end of the month.

Before anyone in Missouri starts worrying about the likelihood of these large lizards loitering in their local lakes, don’t worry. Most of the known locations, including the hunting grounds, take place in southern Arkansas, a good distance away from the Missouri border.

This is in no small part due to the fact that alligators in Arkansas were hunted almost to extinction within the Natural State. It was only removed from the threatened/endangered status completely in 1987.

The zones for hunting are divided into three, with zone 1 being in southwest Arkansas, zone 2 being in south central Arkansas, and zone 3 being in southwest Arkansas. According to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, additional areas for the hunting of alligators have even opened up this year, which points to an increase in population.

When one applies for a permit for alligator hunting, they must attend an online hunt orientation that is intended to educate the potential alligator hunters in frequently asked questions and important safety details.
